The Fighter
-Warning: there are spoilers (from the plot). -
Transposition on the screen the true story of boxer "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg ) and higher half-brother Dicky Eklund ( Christian Bale), also a boxer. Haunted by a mother-manager (Melissa Leo ) obsessed with success and money god, the first, gentle character, he will be impossible to fight matches on the card, while the second, after a match (lost) against the famous Sugar Ray Leonard, will enter into the spiral of crack.
But in the land of second chance both will take revenge: Micky, after meeting his present wife Charlene ( Amy Adams), will succeed to win the crown of world champion welterweight thanks to the support of his brother Dicky, riabilitatosi drug after a long spell in prison.
biopic of classical approach, The Fighter is a solid, fairly well written, directed and starred in with a good job in admirable fashion, although with excess gigioneschi altogether forgivable.
Set in working class New England towns inhabited mainly by Irish immigrants, the film flounders a bit 'in the first half struggling to assume an identity and then take shape in the phase separation of the two brothers, culminating in the cathartic final.
David O. Russell, who described this "His best", he gets a deserved nomination ' Oscar (the film has obtained a total of seven) focusing on the development of the facts of the case less positive figures (Dicky and his mother) and leaving aside only in line principle, the true protagonist of the film emerges as a deeply unbalanced characters real (in the life of Micky Ward is really a shy person and silent), which enhances the acting skills of the whole cast.
Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, both favorites for winning the 'Oscar as a supporter, boasting performance and thanks to some remarkable grimace too (much like those to the jury) is then the role of true leader of this affair; Amy Adams, very good, finally found an all-round character, able to affect positively the life of Micky Ward natured, just this last, finally, in my opinion, the real revelation: I'm talking of course Mark Wahlberg, who portrays a character strikingly clumsy but determined, combative but introverted, quiet but successful.
Ah, for the record, after The King's Speech this movie also falls in the absurd Population: Dicky Eklund, more than eight years Micky, is played by Bale, who has three years less of Wahlberg , is there anyway to say that at least in questo caso Bale, invecchiato in modo accettabile, ha perso moltissimo peso per essere più credibile nei panni del suo personaggio.
In definitiva un film più che gradevole di cui consiglio sicuramente la visione.
